Bharamari Pranayama or Humming Bee Breath
"With regular practice of this pranayama (Bhramari) bliss arises in the yogi's heart". (Hatha Yoga Pradipika)

The Sanskrit  adjective bhramarin means “Humming black bee” , "sweet as honey" or "that which produces ecstasy". Bhramari or Nasal Snoring is more difficult than the usual mouth snoring.

The Basic Practice

bhramari pranayama

Sit in a meditation pose like Padmasana (Lotus), Swastikasana (Auspicious), Vajrasana (Thunderbolt) or any cross legged position in which the body can be relaxed and spine is straight.

Place the hands on the knees, close the eyes and relax the whole body for a short time.  The mouth is closed gemtly with jaw held so relaxed that the teeth don't touch each other. The soft palate must be lifted toward the top of the pharynx sufficiently to produce flutter which may be very hard to control.

Close the ears by closing the small flaps of the ears with the index or middle finger. The elbows are held out to the side so that the chest is open.

Bring the awareness to the center of the head, where ajna chakra is located .

Yoga Asanas - Forward Bends
Prasarita Padotanasana C

The Forward Bends asanas both looks and are simple, when we understand the mechanism of how we go into them. The forward bends are passive postures. They require you relax into the position, rather than force yourself into it. There should be no pulling or straining, no forcing the body to go anywhere. Instead, you try to let go and completely surrender to the pose. The Forward Bends are the most powerful and important asanas, helping to ease the spinal compression caused by standig upright. Although the action is familiar, the alignment, mindfulness and surrender which are present in a forward bending asana can be a new and challenging experience.

The Power of Thought

by T.K. Sribhashyam (son of Krishnamacharya)

the power of thoughtIt is the mind (manas) that is the creator of worlds. Anything that is produced in the world is always accomplished by the mind, never by the body. The body itself is only deserving of its name when it is produced as such by the mind.  One who does not consider the body as an object of experience is not influenced by the qualitative attributes of the mind; that is to say, by the specific joy and sadness linked to each stage of the body.  Seen from the outside, the body offers us pleasure and pain; seen from the inside, it is neither pleasant nor unpleasant. All the illusions of the world have their source within the mind.

It is related with the heart and the circulatory system, the heart plexus, the lungs and the whole chest area. The gland controlled by this chakra is the thymus that controls the immunologic system. It is also related with the sense of the tact and the fears. A characteristic activity of this chakra is giving hugs, which allows us to feel what it is that the other person feels inside his body, and tells the other what you feel inside our body. For that reason the sensibility when touching and being touched is a characteristic of this chakra.

From The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna

The Vedas speak of the homa bird. It lives high up in the sky and there it lays its egg.

As soon as the egg is laid it begins to fall; but it is so high up that it continues to fall for many days. As it falls it hatches, and the chick falls.
